Hong Kong Coastal Trail Challenge 2023/24 will be organised on 15 November 2023 to 15 January 2024. During the event, you are invited to explore any, several, or all 8 stages of the Coastal Trail loop around Hong Kong Island while completing tasks by using our TrailWatch Event App at your own pace.

Commemorative pins and an e-certificate of participation will be given to participants who have completed the event. 10 amazing prizes will be awarded to category winners.

Now you can walk all the way between Central, Sheung Wan, Sai Ying Pun, and Kennedy Town along the waterfront. An easy flat section of the trail that offers constantly changing views of Victoria Harbour and some iconic landmarks along the way.

​Mt. Davis Coastal Walk

Mt. Davis Coastal Walk is approximately 3.5 kilometers long, spanning through the Western District of Hong Kong Island. This route is rich in British colonial features, passing by numerous historical buildings left over from the colonial era, documenting the lives of the Hong Kong people during that period and bearing witness to the 156-year British rule over Hong Kong Island.

Aberdeen Harbour Walk

Aberdeen Harbour Walk is approximately 7.4 kilometers long, connecting the Western District to the Southern District of Hong Kong Island. Along the way, it passes through the famous public housing estate called Wah Fu Estate, known as the “mansion for the common man.” In the vicinity of the estate, there are several small hidden gems waiting to be discovered, offering a glimpse into the local culture and stories of Wah Fu Estate. The route also crosses through the fishing community of Aberdeen.

Southern Beaches Walk

Southern Beaches Walk is approximately 10.4 kilometers long and is a must-visit route on the way to Stanley. The route passes through Repulse Bay Beach, a popular spot for water activities and hiking enthusiasts. Make sure you don’t miss it! In addition, this year a new section has been added to back and forth Chung Hom Kok, which takes you to the Chung Hom Kok Park, offering breathtaking views of the surroundings.

Tai Tam Nature Walk

Tai Tam Nature Walk passes through Tai Tam Harbour and the main dam of Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir, also known as “Asia’s First Dam”. This section is generally flat and suitable for beginners who enjoy the scenic beauty of mountains and water and are interested in experiencing steep uphill slopes.

Note: Due to landslide and fallen trees, part of Hong Kong Trail Section 7 is temporarily closed for clearance and maintenance. The Start / End Point of Tai Tam Nature Walk is Stanley Murray House / Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir Dam.

Long Dragon’s Back Walk

The Long Dragon’s Back Walk connects part of the Hong Kong Trail Section 8. It passes through the famous hiking trail known as Dragon’s Back, where hikers can easily enjoy the stunning scenery of Hong Kong’s alternative countryside, which is just as beautiful as that of Sai Kung.

Note: Due to landslide and fallen trees, part of Hong Kong Trail Section 8 is temporarily closed for clearance and maintenance. The Start / End Point of Long Dragon’s Back Walk is To Tei Wan Bus Stop, Shek O Road (Hong Kong Trail Section 8) / Tai Tam Gap Correctional Institution, Shek O Road.

Chai Wan City Walk

Chai Wan City Walk passes through the Chai Wan and Shau Kei Wan areas in Hong Kong. This area used to be the British intelligence center and a fortress for defending the eastern part of Hong Kong Island. The Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, located near the route, is a historic site that was converted from the former Lyemun Fort. It has a history of over a hundred years and is worth visiting to learn about the defense and military development in Hong Kong’s history.

​Eastern Harbour Walk

The eastern part of Victoria Harbour offers stunning views, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of the Hong Kong Island coastline and the Victoria Harbour. Electric Road and Java Road are important roads connecting the Eastern and Central districts of Hong Kong Island. Electric Road originated from the early development of electric lighting companies in the eastern part of the island, which contributed to the prosperity of the entire street and even the North Point community.

General Tips

Please start early in the day to avoid walking in the dark, bring a head torch and wind jacket if necessary.
Please bring your octopus and sufficient amount of money during your journey.
Please make sure your phone is with sufficient power. Bring an extra phone or power banks with you if necessary.
Please be aware of the weather, and take preventive measures such as sun protection when necessary.
Please bring enough food, snacks and drinks.
Please pay attention to road safety, obey road rules and pay attention to the road conditions.
Stay hydrated! Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
