【Stories behind the pins】Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir Dam
Completed in 1917, the Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir was said to be the “Asia’s Number One Dam” in the past. The masonry-faced concrete gravity dam features ornamental parapets and large spillways to handle water overflow. Over the spillways are a road deck connecting Tai Tam with Chai Wan and Shek O formed by arches supported by half-round granite columns.
The Tai Tam Reservoir Scheme, comprising the construction of the largest group of reservoirs on Hong Kong Island, marked the improvement of water supply allowing the expansion of the city’s built-up area.
